Meet Treehouse's Executive Director

As part of our Learn Together at Home effort we’ve been highlighting the work of authors and illustrators who have been in residence at Treehouse over the years and sharing links to coloring pages and videos. This week we want to reintroduce you to our founding director, Lynne Goodwin, who is an artist, designer, and writer, as well as the Treehouse director for the past 28 years. Many of the walls and exhibits at Treehouse were not only painted by Lynne, but designed by her, too. Remember the dragon in the “dungeon” of the theater tower? That’s one of her favorite wall paintings. She also loved designing and painting the Castle mural in the party room, the China House, and the Great Britain House with its Peter Rabbit furniture.  Lynne says the most daunting art projects at Treehouse were painting all giant things – the stone walls, the green walls, and the giant floor maps of Utah and America. “I got pretty good at painting fur by the end of the Utah Map project,” Lynne says. Outside of Treehouse Lynne’s art has been published as greeting cards, and as book, magazine, and newspaper illustrations. We’re happy to share Lynne’s coloring page with you. It even has dragons!

Take Lynne Goodwin's Treehouse Exhibit Design Challenge

Lynne has a Children’s Challenge Contest for children ages 4 and up who enjoy art and stories. The Challenge is for children to think about an exhibit they would like to see built at Treehouse and draw it. The exhibit should stick to the Treehouse mission of inviting children and their grownups to Step into a Story®. Children can use any medium they like – from crayons to markers to paint. Entries are due by July 15 and should be emailed to treehouse@treehousemuseum.org with the artist’s name, age, and a sentence or two explaining their exhibit design and what visitors to the exhibit would be able to do and see. The finalists will each receive a special art kit from Treehouse. So, start designing your dream Treehouse exhibit now!

There is also still time to enter our writing Challenge with young adult author Keir Graff. Short stories inspired by a book  should be emailed to Treehouse by June 30 to treehouse@treehousemuseum.org. The finalists will have their stories forwarded to Kier who will read and give pointers and encouragement. It’s a great opportunity to get personalized writing advice from a published and popular author.

Until next Thursday, take care and keep learning together!

Thank You to Our Program and Exhibit Donors
