Come and meet René Colato Lainez, the award-winning author of many bilingual and multicultural children’s books, including the beautiful and moving “My Shoes and I: Crossing Three Borders.” Other favorites at Treehouse among his books are “Let’s Be Friends, Seamos Amigos,” Señor Pancho Had a Rancho,” “Playing Loteria, Eljuego de la Loteria,” and “¡Vámonos! Let’s Go!” René was known as the teacher with stories when he taught school in a bilingual classroom. René has a master’s degree from Vermont College of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults. René will talk about his books in the Treehouse Theater at 6:30 p.m. ASL interpretation will be provided. He’ll sign copies of his books for families and educators after the talk. Treehouse staff will be playing Loteria with families and all the Treehouse exhibits will be open. Please note that this event is free for both children and adults, but requires a ticket reservation to attend.

This event is part of the 25th annual Utah Humanities Book Festival. This annual free festival is the Utah Humanities’ gift to the community, allowing us to explore all sorts of ideas by interacting with great writers.

Put on your Halloween costumes and your walking  shoes and sign up your family to take a walk around Treehouse’s block, or inside the Museum in case of rain, for a costume parade. Then you'll meet some super heroes who stepped out of  the really cool cars parked on our plaza. You'll also meet our magicians, more storybook characters, and fill up the cute treat bag we provide, plus enjoy Dutch Brother's delicious hot chocolate. And there's one more treat – a puppet show with Treehouse favorite Randel McGee in our Theater. Treehouse is open just for Trek & Treat participants that morning. Your family ticket (only $30 for the whole family) includes a treat bag for each child and all the treats and the puppet show.  Please plan on bringing 1 adult for every 3 children. Strollers and wagons, decorated for Halloween, are welcome on the Trek. Again, in case of rain, the activities will be held inside Treehouse.

Again, the cost for a whole family to participate is only $30. Please select the number of families you are registering, not the number of children. Members should only indicate 1 adult if the system asks who is attending so that you are charged correctly for your ticket.

Please note that Treehouse will only be open for Trek and Treat participants from 10 a.m. to Noon. We will reopen for regular Treehouse admission at 1 p.m.
